Job Summary

This position is located at Defense Logistics Agency, Child & Youth Services Division in Richmond, VA. The announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies throughout the program. Management has the right to assign staff to locations as mission requires.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years during daily schedules of indoor and outdoor activities and on field trips, outings, and special events.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth.
  • Prepare and implement program options for children and youth with special requirements.
  • Instruct team members in specific tasks and job techniques; make available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
  • Explain program guidance, procedures, policies, and directives to team members.
  • Use designated evaluation materials to ensure assigned area is in compliance with Dept of Defense (DoD), and local installation standards.
  • Ensure assigned area maintains standards for DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent.
  • Complete training requirements using approved service materials to include designated training modules.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Meet one of the following:
    • Possess and maintain one of the following directly related to the age group of the position to which assigned: Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Military School Age Credential, Army Youth Practicum or other nationally recognized Youth Development Credential.
    • Two years of specialized experience working in a group program with children or youth plus an associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours with a major course of study (24 semester hours) with content directly related to the age group to which assigned.
    • A bachelor's Degree or at least 120 semester hours with a major course of study (24 semester hours) with content as indicated above.
    • Possess 24 months (2 years) working in a group childcare or youth program with completion of DoD approved competency training courses, evidenced by Service-issued documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience assisting with childcare or youth program national accreditation processes.
  • Experience participating in multi-disciplinary or higher-level child/youth program inspections.
  • Experience working with varying age groups (early childhood, school age, youth).
  • Experience leading or mentoring lower level childcare/youth program staff.
Additional Information

This is a Regular Full-Time position with a minimum workweek of 40 hours and eligible for benefits. Additional referrals may be made from this vacancy announcement for up to 90 days after the closing date.
