As a Principal Engineer in the District Materials work area, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of pavements and roadways across the state.

We are seeking an experienced and skilled engineer to oversee the materials function for the district, manage programmed projects, and administer the district pavement management system.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • SUPERVISING THE MATERIALS FUNCTION FOR THE DISTRICT TO ENSURE SMOOTH, SAFE AND ECONOMICAL PAVEMENTS
  • MANAGING PROGRAMMED PROJECTS INCLUDING SOILS AND PAVEMENT DESIGN
  • ADMINISTERING THE DISTRICT PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A PROFESSIONAL CIVIL ENGINEER LICENSE WITH THE MINNESOTA BOARD OF ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING, LAND SURVEYING, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, GEOSCIENCE, AND INTERIOR DESIGN (AELSLAGID)
  • THREE YEARS OF POST-REGISTRATION ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE AT THE ENGINEER SENIOR LEVEL (OR EQUIVALENT) THAT DEMONSTRATES ALL THE FOLLOWING: MATERIALS ENGINEERING, ROADWAY AND PAVEMENT DESIGN, PAVEMENT AND GRADING MATERIALS, PAVEMENT REHABILITATION STRATEGIES, LIFE CYCLE COST ANALYSIS, SOIL PROPERTIES AND CHARACTERISTICS ASSOCIATED WITH THEIR USE OF HIGHWAY ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION
  • THE ABILITY TO READ AND INTERPRET CONSTRUCTION PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
  • TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE TO INTERPRET SOILS AND PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE DATA AND MAKE ORAL AND/OR WRITTEN RECOMMENDATIONS FOR GRADING, BASE AND SURFACING

The estimated salary range for this position is $85,232 - $129,810 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
