Position Summary

The Security Specialist role is vital in ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff. This position involves enforcing organizational policies and executing assigned responsibilities to maintain a secure environment in a professional and courteous manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold all safety and security protocols established by the organization.
  • Conduct regular inspections of both on-site and off-site facilities.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents as assigned, ensuring timely reporting of all occurrences.
  • Manage the opening and lockdown procedures for all facilities as authorized.
  • Engage in emergency response and participate in preparedness drills.
  • Maintain necessary certifications and complete required training within specified timeframes.
  • Adapt interactions to respect the diverse needs of the patient population.
  • Perform additional related duties as necessary.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: A minimum of one year in security, law enforcement, or military service is required.

Certifications: Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record. Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training and firearms training are also required. Certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in computer operations, including data entry and information retrieval.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly to various audiences.
  • Ability to walk extensively throughout the facility, including navigating stairs in multi-story buildings.

Physical and Environmental Demands

This role involves medium physical demands, requiring the ability to exert force to move objects as necessary. While routine exposure to blood or bodily fluids is minimal, there may be occasional risks associated with communicable diseases and hazardous materials typical in a healthcare environment.
