Job Summary

AtriCure is seeking a highly skilled Patent Engineer to join our team. As a Patent Engineer, you will be responsible for identifying, understanding, and capturing inventions that will contribute to the development of AtriCure's patent portfolio. You will work closely with our technical teams to mine for patentable inventions and lead invention brainstorm sessions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct patent mining sessions and work with engineers to identify patentable inventions
  • Communicate inventions to members of the intellectual property review team for consideration and approval
  • Conduct landscape, patentability, and Freedom-to-Operate searches
  • Assist in the identification of whitespace opportunities
  • Draft invention disclosures on behalf of engineers
  • Prepare drafts of patent applications and assist in patent litigation matters when and as necessary
  • Find and execute ways to encourage innovation within AtriCure
Requirements
  • Master's or PhD in a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in the patent field
  • Prior experience assisting inventors with invention disclosures a strong plus
  • Registered before the USPTO Patent Bar (or willing to sit for the exam within 12 months of hire)
  • Proficiency with USPTO systems (PAIR, PatFT, EFS Web) as well as other commercially available software platforms
