Job Summary

As an Aviation Rescue Swimmer with the US Navy, you will be part of an elite team responsible for conducting search and rescue operations in extreme environments. Your duties will include coordinating with pilots, rescuing people in distress, and providing support to Naval Special Warfare Operations.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct search and rescue operations in various environments, including at sea and in remote areas
  • Coordinate with pilots to execute rescue missions
  • Rescue people in distress, including those stranded at sea or in remote areas
  • Provide support to Naval Special Warfare Operations
  • Operate various aircraft systems to support mission types, including surface warfare, search and rescue, and combat search and rescue
Work Environment

As an Aviation Rescue Swimmer, you will operate in a variety of environments, including at sea and in remote areas. You may be assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat (HSC) or Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadrons (HSM) sea or shore duty in any part of the world.

Training & Advancement

Aviation Rescue Swimmers undergo rigorous training to prepare them for the demands of the job. This includes training in advanced swimming and lifesaving techniques, helicopter mission equipment, and helicopter weapons systems. Upon completion of initial training, candidates will be assigned to a helicopter command at sea or on shore duty in various locations throughout the world.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Meet specific eyesight requirements: uncorrected vision no worse than 20/100; correctable to 20/20 in both eyes with normal depth and color perception
  • Meet the minimum Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) score: VE+AR+MK+MC=210 or VE+AR+MK+AS=210
  • Pass a PST in DEP/Boot Camp
  • Pass Class 1 Flight Physical
  • Be 30 years of age or younger
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for security clearance
