Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Waterbury Public Schools. As a Special Education Teacher: Self Contained-BDLC, you will be responsible for providing instruction and educational supports to special needs students, assisting them in their academic and social development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students in a self-contained classroom setting
  • Collaborate with other educators and support staff to ensure students receive comprehensive support
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Communicate with parents and guardians to ensure students receive necessary support
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate/endorsement(s) appropriate to the teaching assignment
  • Ability to work with students with a wide range of disabilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a school setting, which may include exposure to loud noises, extreme temperatures, and other environmental conditions. The employee must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
