The 3CN/5CN Intermediate Surgical Unit provides a vibrant patient care environment. The 3 CN unit features ten beds dedicated to general surgery, vascular, and thoracic patients, being the sole progressive care unit in the facility capable of monitoring arterial lines. Meanwhile, the 5 CN unit specializes in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, receiving patients directly from the ICU and managing those on various anti-arrhythmics. The focus of 5CN is on effective discharge planning and readiness.

Scope of Work
The Registered Nurse (RN), adhering to the ANA scope of practice, employs the nursing process framework to deliver professional nursing care. This includes integrating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and facilitate discharge.

The RN is responsible for providing high-quality patient care under the guidance of the Nurse Leader, in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures. The RN acknowledges the significance of nursing care and the collaboration with patients and families in achieving positive patient outcomes.

The RN collaborates with patients and families to incorporate their input and goals into the care plan, developing appropriate educational strategies and documenting learning in the health record.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess an Associate's degree in Nursing. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required within five years of hire. Candidates from non-accredited nursing programs must have at least one year of acute care experience or two years in a licensed healthcare role, along with successful completion of the NCLEX licensure examination.

Additionally, candidates must hold a Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license and obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days, as well as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months. Specialty certification is highly recommended within two years.
