The Department of Veterans Affairs is actively seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible physician specializing in Pulmonology, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine for our esteemed medical facility.
Position Highlights:
Qualifications Required:
Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pulmonology, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.
On-Call Responsibilities:
Call Schedule:
Expected to participate in on-call duties approximately one weekend every 5-7 weeks for inpatient management. Telephone call for ICU backup as necessary.
Standard Office Hours: 8 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Average inpatient census: 25 beds, including an 8-bed ICU, with a typical census of 25-27.
Outpatient Responsibilities:
Anticipated average of 35 outpatient consultations monthly.
Compensation and Benefits:
Sign-On Bonus: Available.
Relocation Assistance: Provided.
Annual Salary:
Competitive salary range of $200,000 to $240,000, with potential for an annual performance bonus of up to $15,000, alongside comprehensive benefits.
Licensure:
A full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state is acceptable for practice at this facility.
Continuing Medical Education (CME):
Annual stipend of $1,000 for CME reimbursement, plus one week of paid leave to attend approved CME activities (subject to budget availability).
Malpractice Coverage:
Comprehensive liability protection with tail coverage provided by the federal government.
Additional Benefits:
In addition to competitive compensation and liability coverage, the Department of Veterans Affairs offers a robust benefits package, including:
- Paid Time Off: 26 days of annual leave (vacation/personal) that can be carried over up to 86 days into the next year.
- 13 days of paid sick leave annually with no limit on accumulation; unused sick leave can extend creditable service time at retirement.
- 10 federal holidays with pay.
- 5 days of paid authorized absence and $1,000 reimbursement for approved CME courses.
Insurance Options:
VA employees have access to a wide range of health insurance plans, with premiums partially covered by the VA.
Dental and Vision Coverage:
Exceptional dental and vision plans are available, with premiums also partially covered by the VA. Flexible Spending Accounts are offered to utilize tax-free dollars for medical, dental, and vision expenses not reimbursed by health insurance.
Life Insurance:
Various life insurance options are available, with costs shared by the federal government.
Retirement Benefits:
Employees are covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), which includes:
- Social Security benefits.
- FERS-FRAE basic benefits (pension).
- Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), a 401(k)-type plan.
VA employees contribute 4.4% of their salary each pay period, while the VA contributes 8.3%, totaling an annual contribution of 12.7% of the employee's salary.
For those under 50, contributions to the TSP can be up to $17,500, with catch-up contributions available for those over 50.
Retired military personnel receive these benefits in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension, and health care insurance coverage is also provided for retirees.
Disability retirement options are available, with vesting in a federal pension after just 5 years of service.
