Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead and manage the daily activities of the husbandry team, ensuring optimal animal care and departmental efficiency.

  3. Facilitate communication among team members and across departments to ensure collaborative efforts in animal care.
  4. Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to enhance team performance.
  5. Oversee the scheduling and approval of staff timecards, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.

Operational Duties

  1. Direct the operations of the animal care center, including quarantine procedures, enrichment programs, and medical coordination.
  2. Assess and recommend improvements for animal exhibits and care practices.
  3. Develop and implement standard operating procedures for animal husbandry, ensuring compliance with biosecurity and nutrition standards.
  4. Maintain records and assist in budget management related to animal care and supplies.
  5. Collaborate with various departments to ensure a cohesive approach to animal health and environmental quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in animal care is required.
  • Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Open Water SCUBA certification is required, along with the ability to meet medical diving standards.

  • Strong understanding of life support systems and animal husbandry practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
