Job Summary

Pima Medical Institute is seeking a highly qualified Veterinary Nursing Program Director to lead our veterinary nursing program. The successful candidate will have a strong background in veterinary nursing and education, with experience in program development and leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Leadership: Supervise the activities of the veterinary nursing staff, evaluate faculty, and prepare teaching assignments.
  • Department Goals: Determine, establish, and implement veterinary nursing department goals.
  • Student Success: Consistently monitor student success rates, implement plans to reduce student withdrawals, and maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes taught in the program.
  • Expenditures and Budget: Monitor expenditures and keep to the department budget.
  • Workshops and In-Service Training: Coordinate and arrange for educational workshops and in-service training for didactic and clinical faculty.
  • Grading and Records: Maintain student grades in accordance with established policies, prepare final grades, and update student records and transcripts.
  • Evaluation and Progress: Evaluate the performance of students regarding course objectives, make necessary provisions to meet learning needs, and visit clinical sites to review and evaluate students' clinical performance and progress.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop and maintain a functional curriculum according to approved design, evaluate course content, and review new texts.
  • Accreditation and Reporting: Maintain all American Veterinary Medical Association records, prepare annual reports, and prepare self-study reports for necessary accreditation.
  • Instructor and Lab Competencies: Perform functions of a Veterinary Nursing instructor, monitor lab competencies, and confirm skill levels on checklists.
  • Meetings and Communication: Plan and conduct department staff and semiannual Advisory Board meetings, and maintain open communication with faculty and staff.
Requirements
  • Education: Baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of occupational (i.e., practical) experience within the veterinary field and/or three (3) years of teaching experience in the veterinary field.
  • Credentials: Licensed doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) or a credentialed veterinary technician.
  • Skills: Verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer skills.
