Certified Nursing Assistant and Blood Collection Specialist

JOB OBJECTIVE:
Under the supervision of the department head, executes daily blood collection tasks with precision, professionalism, and efficiency.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Manages laboratory data collection systems and tools to ensure laboratory test requests are accurately processed, modified, and billed.
- Ensures correct patient identification to prevent errors that could impact care.
- Conducts blood draws from patients, primarily within the senior demographic.
- Handles specimen processing, preparation, and distribution.
- Maintains an ongoing awareness of protocols and procedures, consistently enforcing infection control measures while interacting with patients.
- Communicates effectively with patients, providing reassurance and comfort during procedures.
Ensures accurate documentation of all relevant information.
- Orders and oversees laboratory supplies.
- Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and proper stocking of all work areas.
- Handles sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
- Collaborates with the laboratory manager on lab-related matters.
- Capable of working autonomously as well as within a team setting.
- Adheres to all OSHA, CLIA, and federal guidelines.
- Upholds a professional demeanor and appearance.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Integrates technology into daily operations by utilizing Outlook, LIS, MatrixCare, and other electronic systems proficiently.
- Analyzes work processes to enhance organization, implement improvements, and resolve issues.
- Effectively communicates and collaborates with administration, managers, supervisors, partners, and colleagues.
- Supports the mission and objectives of PruittHealth.
- Represents PruittHealth professionally in terms of appearance, communication, and patient confidentiality.
- Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
- Participates in center/agency evaluations (Licensure/JCAHO) and any required follow-up reports.
- Engages in ongoing educational opportunities to stay updated on industry changes and maintain necessary licensure/certification.
- Attends mandatory training sessions.
- Respects patients' rights to fair treatment, self-determination, privacy, and civil rights, including the right to voice grievances.
- Complies with corporate compliance protocols.
- Reports any job-related functions that may pose occupational hazards, including exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
- Follows established safety protocols, including fire safety, infection control, and other regulations.
- Adheres to safety procedures when performing tasks and operating equipment.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or an approved phlebotomy training course.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- At least one year of phlebotomy experience, particularly with geriatric patients.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
- Phlebotomy Certification.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to successfully complete a standardized color blindness assessment.
Physical Requirements:
Requires prolonged standing. Involves working in a skilled nursing facility environment.
Involves bending and stretching. Ability to lift weights ranging from five to ten pounds.
Requires working in a fast-paced environment, utilizing a telephone and computer.
Manual dexterity is necessary for computer keyboard use.
