POSITION:
Behavior Support Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of RBT training course and certification examination.
- 60 College Credits, or Associate's Degree, or a score of 457 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with students and staff.
- Commitment to confidentiality.
- Physical capability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal and/or Director of Special Services
JOB GOAL:
To deliver intensive behavioral support services to students. The Behavior Support Specialist will work closely with educators and support personnel to implement behavior support strategies for students requiring significant behavioral assistance throughout the school day. This role will adhere to all RBT certification requirements and may involve providing some instructional support as necessary.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understand and apply fundamental principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in educational settings as directed.
Assess student needs and implement interventions to guide behavior.
Collect and submit data for Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
Document student progress (collect, enter, and graph data, write session notes).
Implement BIPs to facilitate behavioral improvements.
Utilize various preference assessments to identify effective reinforcers.
Regularly review and stay informed about multiple BIPs to ensure effective implementation and monitoring for various students.
Provide direct consultation to the BCBA, focusing on data analysis and recommendations for adjustments to BIPs.
Model BIP implementation for paraprofessionals and staff as directed by the BCBA.Participate as a member of the crisis intervention team.
Share insights with certified staff regarding student programming.
Attend meetings as requested.
Engage in regular department meetings with BCBA and fellow RBTs in accordance with RBT guidelines.
Ensure consistency of BIPs by communicating and collaborating with teachers and other staff.
Work with a diverse group of students across various age ranges as assigned.
Assist in implementing district policies and procedures that safeguard the safety, health, and well-being of students and staff.
Foster supportive and inclusive environments by implementing strategies developed by educators/providers.Respect individual differences among students, their families, and school personnel.
Utilize strategies that promote student independence and self-esteem.
Provide monitoring support in various learning environments (e.g., lunchrooms, recess, library, buses).
Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits are based on the negotiated agreement for support staff.
EVALUATION:
The Behavior Support Specialist will be evaluated by a building administrator and/or the Director of Pupil Services in collaboration with the BCBA based on this job description.
