Job Summary:The Staff Nurse/Operating Room Circulator is responsible for providing high-quality patient care and ensuring a smooth surgical experience. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Pre-Operative Assessment: Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments of patients to identify potential risks and develop a plan for their care.
- Surgical Time Out: Coordinate the Surgical Time Out process to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to ensure patient safety.
- Circulator Role: Act as the circulator to the surgeon, obtaining and maintaining a sterile field, and monitoring equipment and supplies.
- Medication Management: Prepare and administer medications as needed, and maintain accurate records of medication administration.
- Specimen Handling: Receive, prepare, and readied for pickup specimens obtained during surgery.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all nursing activities performed in the surgery rooms.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure seamless care.
- Education: Provide education to patients and families on procedures, medications, and discharge plans.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
- Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- License: Current RN license.
- Certification: Current CPR certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred.
