Job Summary

As an Electrical Inspector with the City of Morgantown, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of electrical systems in our community. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires a strong understanding of electrical codes and regulations, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect electrical systems and installations to ensure compliance with local, state, and national electrical codes and regulations.
  • Conduct site visits to inspect electrical work, including new construction, renovations, and repairs.
  • Verify that electrical systems meet safety standards and are properly installed, maintained, and operated.
  • Issue permits and certificates of occupancy for electrical work that meets code requirements.
  • Collaborate with contractors, builders, and other stakeholders to resolve electrical code compliance issues.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes to electrical codes and regulations, and provide training and guidance to others as needed.
Requirements
  • Master Electrician or Journeyman certification through the state of WV.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • ICC certification as a Residential Electrical Inspector within 6 months of date of hire.
  • ICC certification as a Commercial Inspector and Plans Examiner within 12 months of date of hire.
  • 4-6 years of experience in construction, electrical or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Supplemental courses in building trades and seminars or conferences concerning the National Electrical Code.
  • Master Electrician license.
  • ICC Electrical Inspector certification.
  • Current ICC IRC/IBC certification.
  • 10 years of experience as an Electrical Contractor or Inspector.
