Radiologic Technologist
This position is responsible for operating mammographic radiologic equipment in a hospital or clinic environment as part of the diagnostic plan for patients. The incumbent will assist a physician to perform stereotactic biopsies to remove tissue from a suspected abnormality in a breast in accordance with standard protocol for the procedure. The Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requires the incumbent to demonstrate competency and assume responsibility for the safe and proper operation of radiological equipment. The accuracy and clarity of the X-ray studies directly affect the accuracy and reliability of the physician's diagnosis and treatment. The incumbent will work with standard operating procedures that cover most work assignments and specify the number and sequence of exposures and normal positioning of the patient for each exposure. Technical factors are determined from tables of typical settings of kilovoltage, milliamperage, and time for each procedure and for differences in size and physique of the patient. Printed guidelines are supplemented by oral explanations when undertaking new assignments or changed methods.
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited school of Radiological Technology is required. Recent employment as a Radiological Mammographic Technologist, including experience with current technical aspects of patient care in the Radiology and Mammography Department, is also required. American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT)(M) certification, State Certification, and Current CPR certification are also required. State Society of Radiological Technologist recommended certification is also preferred.
