Grooming Technician in Training

This position is responsible for enrolling and completing the Paragon training program, a 15-week virtual learning experience that educates students on the fundamentals of bathing and grooming, as well as safety, pet first aid, and CPR.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain regular and predictable attendance
- Work scheduled shifts and adapt to varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
- Support selling initiatives by thanking customers, engaging with them, advising on products or services, and making their experience memorable
- Learn and perform a combination of duties, including safe pet handling, bathing, drying, brushing, and combing all coat types, nail trimming, ear cleaning, preparatory hair trimming, basic clipper techniques, and basic finishing techniques
- Provide customer service skills, demonstrate professionalism, handle equipment, and ensure the safety and well-being of animals
- Inspect animals for external signs of parasites, disease, or injury and report findings to pet owners
- Practice safety and sanitization protocols, sanitize and maintain grooming tools and equipment, and assist in generating business by calling customers, scheduling appointments, and verifying vaccinations
- Maintain records of pet clients, operate a computer, and recover the store as needed
- Must be comfortable working with dogs and cats, demonstrate patience and compassion for animals, and provide own tools or be willing to purchase required tools
- High school diploma or equivalent required; any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered
- Ability to read, write, and count accurately, operate all grooming tools and equipment, communicate effectively with associates and customers, and display compassion with animals
Working environment is favorable, generally working inside with moderate noise. Exposure to sharp grooming instruments, perfumed shampoos and soaps, pets, and pet waste. Exposure to wet conditions, particularly when bathing dogs. Exposure to cats and dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
Physical Requirements- Ability to move and transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and maintain a stationary position for up to 8 hours while grooming animals
- Ability to frequently move for 4-8 hours per day around the salon to groom animals, clean, and maintain the salon
