Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at the New York State Office of Mental Health. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a critical role in planning and conducting activities for client/patient groups, working individually or as a member of a treatment team or treatment program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct therapeutic recreation programs for clients/patients with mental health conditions, including those with developmental disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, and physical challenges.
  • Analyze and report behavioral patterns to treatment team leaders or supervisors.
  • Participate in team meetings, recreation/leisure assessments, and evaluations.
  • Requisition, store, and maintain equipment and supplies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, Physical Education, or Adaptive Physical Education.
  • One year of experience in planning and administering a therapeutic recreation program, or current credentials as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) issued by the National Council For Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
  • Current licensure by NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist.
