About the Role

MKS Instruments is seeking a Senior Manager of Quality to lead our Plasma & Reactive Gas business unit in developing and implementing quality strategies that ensure operational performance while complying with all relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to the organization to drive a proactive approach leading to improvements in design, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.
  • Lead monthly management reviews for the Plasma and Reactive Gas business units and drive continuous improvement on top issues impacting performance.
  • Facilitate improvement in new product development, continuous improvement activities, quality initiatives, customer interface, and manufacturing processes to ensure quality and reliability requirements are well defined, understood, incorporated, and met.
  • Analyze customer returns and failure rates data in depth and provide trending analysis.
  • Update Quality Metrics and review repair data for accuracy, determine root cause, and CAPA with a focus on systemic improvements.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to determine root cause of both field and in-process failures.
  • Utilize problem-solving tools such as 8-Ds, 5 whys, and Fishbones to facilitate problem-solving activities.
  • Enhance the organization through the use and implementation of various tools such as quality plans, process flows, FMEA, and DOE.
  • Drive and promote a culture of quality within the organization.
  • Own quality management system, manage the Internal Quality System Audit Program, and conduct Quality System Management Reviews.
  • Provide internal and external customer service.
Requirements
  • In-depth understanding of complex process manufacturing.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or other technical or scientific degree (MS preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience with a technical background (ex. R&D, materials science, new product development, etc.).
  • 10+ years of quality experience with effective and thorough knowledge of quality improvement tools such as design quality tools, statistical decision-making methods, problem-solving tools, and ability to use statistical analysis tools.
  • Strong knowledge in assessing the maturity of quality management systems and deep familiarity with ISO.
  • ISO 17025 and ISO 14001 experience are preferred.
  • Analytical and technical ability (a problem solver).
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with product and component reliability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with customers and management.
  • A change agent approach with strong functional team building abilities.
  • Experience working with large OEM organizations, particularly in the semiconductor industry and advanced markets, is a strong plus.
