Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Locksmith to join our team at Stevens Institute of Technology, The Innovation University. As a Locksmith, you will be responsible for performing journey-level work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of manual and automated locks, locking systems, and security devices.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret and implement master key systems to ensure the integrity of the university's security infrastructure.
• Assist with the installation, service, and repair of various types of locks and security devices.
• Disassemble locks, repair and replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
• Cut new or duplicate keys and stamp them with identification.
• Issue keys and maintain records of keys issued and returned.
• Maintain records of work performed under the supervision of the Lock Shop Supervisor.
• Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Requirements

• High school diploma and/or GED, or 1 year of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
• Ability to cut and issue keys, re-key, install and repair locks and hardware.
• Ability to interpret, implement, and maintain pre-defined master key systems.
• Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
• Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair both mechanical locking and electronic access control devices.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Moderate physical activity, requiring handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
• Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
