Position Overview:
Become an integral part of a prestigious academic healthcare institution at The University of Chicago Medicine as a Senior Financial Accountant within the Financial Reporting division. This role primarily offers a remote work opportunity with occasional onsite requirements.
The Senior Financial Accountant will oversee the preparation of monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, documentation of financial transactions, and the maintenance of a robust internal control framework for designated entities. Additionally, this position will play a vital role in supporting both internal and external audit processes. The Senior Financial Accountant is expected to collaborate closely with operational teams, delivering timely and relevant financial insights.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute month-end closing duties, ensuring the accurate and timely preparation and posting of monthly journal entries in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Conduct monthly account analyses and reconciliations promptly to guarantee high-quality financial statements; accountable for reconciliation resolution and ongoing transaction integrity.
- Deliver monthly financial reports and analyses to operational leaders and senior management, providing clear and concise insights into financial performance.
- Assist with internal, external, and regulatory audit activities, including the preparation of audit documentation, account reconciliations, and the creation of audited financial statements.
- Propose enhancements to the monthly closing process and accounting practices to boost efficiency and improve the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting, including the integration of ERP systems and artificial intelligence tools.
- Offer mentorship and guidance to junior staff to foster their professional growth and development.
- Undertake special projects and assignments as directed by management to support departmental advancement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- A minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience.
- Strong grasp of generally accepted accounting principles and investment accounting concepts.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, reporting tools, and advanced Excel skills.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
- Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to perform accurately under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and compliance standards.
- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in spreadsheet and database applications.
- Robust quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; capable of distilling complex information into clear, concise presentations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate issues clearly and substantively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA certification.
