Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team as a Senior Operating Room Registered Nurse in a travel position. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a world-renowned healthcare organization and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Job Summary:The Senior Operating Room Registered Nurse will work under the direction of the Administrative Manager to perform technical and clerical functions required for core front-end laboratory operations. This includes clinical and administrative support to a director, faculty, and/or chief of service, database and materials management for clinical and research projects, calendar management, travel arrangements, and coordination of conferences and courses.
Key Responsibilities:- Registration and insurance verification of private consult cases received by the Pathology Service
- Accessioning of specimens according to approved protocols and documentation of materials received
- Liaison between clients and BWH Pathology, following up on the timely receipt of slides and blocks
- Organization and management of the Breast Pathology Service, including open, organize, and accession all Breast Pathology consult cases received
- Contacting institutions to obtain complete clinical and billing information and additional material on cases, as needed
- Ordering, picking up, and facilitating the handling of materials (e.g. slides, blocks, and reports) needed for assay send out (OncotypeDX)
- Organizing case list for Radiological/Pathological bi-weekly conference and identifying and collating slides for review based on recognizing need for correlation flagged in case diagnosis
- Organizing Pathology Department Conferences, communicating and coordinating speakers and topics
- Organizing revision and coordinating website update of educational materials (Surgical Pathology Grossing 7. Manual and resident assessment) within the pathology department
- Creating documentation for, organizing, and submitting research proposals for staff; corresponding and communicating with grant administrators, if necessary
- Coordinating, scheduling Fellowship Program interviews, observer ships, and follow-up if necessary
- Maintaining Rotating Resident's education information and assessments
- Collating and organizing Quality Assurance data from PowerPath (e.g. HER2 FISH/immunohistochemistry concordance, disagreements with outside pathology reports, reasons for revised reports, and ER/PR/HER2 prevalence of breast prognostic markers over time)
- Assisting in credentialing and re-credentialing document organization and submission
- Accessioning case into Pathology LIS (PowerPath) following established procedures
- Registering patients in Epic for final reporting and billing
- Distributing and triaging private consult cases to appropriate pathologist for review
- Filing, faxing, emailing, photocopying, and preparing materials for couriers
- Transcribing documents, including manuscripts, reports, grants, correspondence, manuals, abstracts, chapters, course materials, proposals, etc.
- Proofreading, editing, and ensuring accuracy on all levels
- Coordinating Outlook calendar, scheduling appointments, meetings, conferences, and travel arrangements
- Coordinating all aspects of travel (e.g. flights, hotel reservations, registration for conferences and meetings)
- Preparing and submitting all paperwork associated with reimbursement (travel, meals, registration fees, etc.)
- Processing and updating academic records, CVs, and biographical sketches
- Maintaining division-specific databases and creating reports as needed
- Ordering, picking up, and facilitating the handling of materials (e.g. slides, blocks, and reports) used for conferences, research projects, and clinical trials
- Maintaining office and ordering supplies
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Minimum 4 years applicable experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting required
- Understanding and use of advanced level medical terminology required
- Knowledge and use of intermediate medical terminology
- Experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting preferred
- PowerPath, EPIC knowledge preferred, but not required
- Experience using EPIC - preferred, but not required
- Understanding of billing operations required
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office application required
- Ability to type 60 WPM and complete data entry with a high level of accuracy
