The full-time Practical Nurse Specialist plays a vital role in the daily operations of the on-campus Health Services Center, delivering individualized educational support to students aimed at fostering their independence.

This position reports to the Health Services Registered Nurse and encompasses a range of nursing responsibilities, including medication monitoring, treatment administration, documentation within student health records, and providing care for individuals with various physical, developmental, and intellectual challenges.

The standard schedule for this full-time role is Monday through Friday from 1 PM to 9 PM, which includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
The Practical Nurse Specialist may also be required to work evenings and weekends as part of their responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct assessments of students at the Health Services Center using a triage method
• Record and monitor vital signs
• Observe students as they self-administer medications and document their progress
• Supervise the medication monitoring process
• Execute treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers
• Respond to medical emergencies occurring on campus
• Document critical findings in the student’s medical records
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members
• Attend meetings as required
• Follow established protocols and procedures diligently
• Work with a diverse group of students with various physical, mental, and developmental disabilities
• Provide nursing care in an educational environment
• Manage supplies and inventory responsibly
• Demonstrate the ability to initiate tasks independently when necessary
• Arrive on time for shifts and maintain reliability
• Present a friendly and positive demeanor to students and staff
• Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as required
• Have knowledge of adaptive equipment and its usage

Qualifications:
• Must hold a current practical nursing license in the state of Tennessee
• Familiarity with basic laboratory practices is essential
• Strong communication and listening skills
• Ability to convey clear and concise information in a classroom setting
• Basic proficiency in electronic data management
• Exceptional customer service skills are a must
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
