The Literature Educator plays a crucial role in delivering academic instruction and providing socioemotional guidance to at-risk adolescents in grades 7-12 within an alternative educational environment.

Established in 1970, TLC focuses on innovative educational practices, coaching, and counseling services aimed at enhancing the lives of public school students and their families.

Position Responsibilities:
The Literature Educator is expected to:

  • Facilitate Learning:
    Foster a classroom atmosphere where the educator acts as a facilitator rather than a traditional lecturer. Design and implement lesson plans that encourage active participation and personalized learning experiences tailored to each student's unique needs.
  • Support Socioemotional Development:
    Provide diverse opportunities for students to enhance their social and emotional competencies, promoting overall wellness in various dimensions—physical, mental, social, and emotional.
  • Conduct Assessments:
    Evaluate student performance through assignments, tests, and classwork, while maintaining comprehensive records of progress to inform instructional strategies.
  • Cultivate a Positive Classroom Environment:
    Establish a compassionate and engaging classroom community, employing evidence-based management techniques and positive behavior support.
  • Engage with Stakeholders:
    Actively participate in meetings with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders to communicate student progress and needs effectively.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Leadership and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication abilities and relationship-building skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of the subject matter and proficiency in relevant software applications.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's Degree along with a Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in the relevant subject area.

Work Environment:
This position is situated in a small, alternative school setting designed for grades 7-12, fostering an open and collaborative learning atmosphere.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week.
