Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) III position is a licensed staff nurse who functions at the Proficient level. This role provides professional direct patient nursing care to a diverse patient population and is considered an expert in a specialty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality and Safety: Leads and identifies opportunities for practice changes and performance improvement, investigates and incorporates evidence-based practices, and leads initiatives to improve quality and safety scores.
  • Financial Management: Implements department strategies to achieve financial targets, mentors others to do the same, and promotes timely documentation of care, decreasing length of stay, and optimizing efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Demonstrates expertise in operating the electronic medical record.
  • Acts as an effective change agent.
  • Uses therapeutic communication to establish a relationship with patients, families, and interprofessional teams to collaborate on the plan of care.
  • Strong assessment, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as evidenced by the capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components.
  • Ability to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care teams, and patients and their families.
  • Demonstrates proficient time management skills.
  • Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Two (2) years nursing experience in a healthcare environment required.
License and Certifications
  • Current Texas Board of Nursing (or Compact State) RN license required or temporary TX License (Permanent license to be obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • NIHSS required (within 6 months of hire date).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required (within 6 months of hire date).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required (within 6 months of hire date).
  • CCRN preferred.
