Job Summary

Matcor is seeking a highly skilled Drilling Operations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our drilling crew, you will be responsible for operating drilling equipment safely and efficiently on the drilling rig floor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drilling Operations: Safely operate drill rig and equipment during the system installation process, including selecting and attaching drill bits and drill rods, and performing routine maintenance and upgrade work on machines and equipment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and upgrade work on machines and equipment, including replacing parts, building up drill bits, and lubricating machinery.
  • Drilling Site Management: Regulate air pressure, rotary speed, and downward pressure, according to the type of rock or concrete being drilled, and operate machines to flush earth cuttings or to blow dust from holes.
  • Equipment Assembly and Positioning: Assemble and position machines, augers, casing pipes, and other equipment, using hand and power tools.
  • Drilling Progress Monitoring: Verify depths and alignments of boring positions, start, stop, and control drilling speed of machines, and record drilling progress and geological data.
  • Transportation: Drive trucks, tractors, or truck-mounted drills to and from work sites.
  • Drill Selection: Select the appropriate drill for the job, using knowledge of rock or soil conditions.
  • Drilling Operations Monitoring: Monitor drilling operations, checking gauges and listening to equipment to assess drilling conditions and to determine the need to adjust drilling or alter equipment.
  • Lost Equipment Retrieval: Retrieve lost equipment from bore holes, using retrieval tools and equipment.
  • Drilling Site Setup: Drive or guide truck-mounted equipment into position, level and stabilize rigs, and extend telescoping derricks.
  • Well Development: Place and install screens, casings, pumps, and other well fixtures in order to develop wells.
  • Client Requirements Review: Review client requirements and proposed locations for drilling operations to determine feasibility, and to determine cost estimates.
  • Geological Data Documentation: Document geological formations encountered during work, and inspect core samples to determine nature of strata or take samples to laboratories for analysis.
  • Anode Installation: Install anodes, per the drawing requirements, to include conductive media and hole sealing.
Requirements
  • Age: Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Commercial Driver's License: Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) from state of residence.
  • Driving Experience: Minimum of 6 months driving experience.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry 75 lbs.
  • Travel Requirements: Must be willing to travel 75%.
  • Work Schedule: Must be willing to work long hours such as 12-hour shifts.
  • Teamwork: Must work well with others and be willing to learn from mentors and others in the shop and field.
  • Equipment Operation: Be able to operate a GEFCO 30k Drilling Rig.
