Job SummaryThe Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for executing assigned design work to support engineering project activity. This includes conceptual design and development of kinetic switches and limited pneumatic fluid power control products. The successful candidate will accurately interpret customer specifications to design and develop aerospace-qualified hardware.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop kinetic switches and pneumatic fluid power control products using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) tools.
- Collaborate with the sales, engineering project team, and engineering management to ensure compliance with technical specifications, request for quotations (RFQ), and statement of work (SOW).
- Generate design modifications to existing switch designs to satisfy new customer-driven design requirements.
- Create new designs based on proven products, requiring scaling and/or geometrical changes to meet new design requirements.
- Provide design solutions to manufacturing problems and sustaining business.
- Coordinate and/or prepare the creation of production drawings and documentation.
- Review, coordinate, and/or draft procedures for hardware development, acceptance, and qualification testing.
- Provide technical and supervisory guidance to personnel assigned to support the project, including proposal and development work.
- Direct the building of prototypes and development hardware.
- Coordinate and direct the required design/technical activities for assigned projects as assigned by the cognizant engineer(s).
- Collaborate with design engineers or perform all their activities.
- Complete forms and relevant documentation within the engineering department for procurement, fabrication, and testing.
- Perform and/or verify engineering testing/calculations to meet performance and safety margins.
- Prepare and present information packages, including all typical supplier document requirement lists (SDRL), for internal design reviews.
- Develop, maintain, and track project schedules.
- Experience in design of detail mechanical components/control valves.
- Some project management experience.
- Technical writing skills, including acceptance test procedures, design reports, qualification test procedure/reports.
- Hands-on experience in assembly, setup, and testing, troubleshooting, laboratory testing.
- An interest in problem-solving and continuous improvement, but no prior experience is required as training will be provided.
- Experience working with switches is a plus.
- Electrical testing, precision testing using meters.
- Experience or an understanding of circuit boards is a plus.
- Design application.
- CADD - Solidworks knowledge is preferred.
- Stress analysis - ANSYS/FEA knowledge is preferred.
- Manufacturing practices (preferred) - machining, welding, stamping, molding, etc.
- Requires a BSME degree or equivalent qualification in work experience.
- 10 years minimum experience in the design and development of mechanical assemblies.
- US Citizen.
