POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role is designed to work in partnership with educational staff to assess and create tailored interventions for students exhibiting significant behavioral challenges that necessitate comprehensive support and intervention. The behavior intervention consultant will enhance the capabilities of staff through training, coaching, and demonstrating the creation and execution of behavior management strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Capability to observe and mentor special education personnel regarding effective instructional and behavioral methodologies.
  • Proficiency in designing and leading professional development sessions focused on behavioral strategies.

Current and Proven Experience in:

  • Programs addressing Autism.
  • Conducting functional communication assessments and developing corresponding programs.
  • Setting goals and monitoring progress.
  • Planning and delivering professional development.
  • Creating and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Addressing challenging behaviors through problem-solving.
  • Managing educational environments effectively.
  • Formulating strategic plans aimed at student success.
  • Training and experience in assessment and special education.
  • Demonstrating meticulous attention to detail.
  • Collaborating effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Exhibiting excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possessing strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Understanding best practices in curriculum, instruction, positive behavior support, assessment, and staff development.
  • Demonstrating a strong aptitude for identifying, analyzing, and resolving issues.
  • Expertise in making data-driven decisions.
  • Proven ability to engage with diverse groups, including colleagues, educators, administrators, students, families, and external personnel.
  • Ability to think clearly and communicate effectively while organizing and evaluating tasks.

Educational Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Special Education or a related discipline.
  • Certification as a BCBA, BCaBA, or LBA.
  • Endorsement as LBS1, School Psychologist, or Social Worker.

Experience Requirements:

  • Familiarity with evidence-based behavioral intervention techniques.
  • Experience working with students exhibiting challenging behaviors in educational settings.
  • Experience providing consultation to staff regarding behavioral needs.

Equipment Proficiency:

  • Familiarity with office equipment including computers, two-way radios, multi-line phone systems, cell phones, copiers, and fax machines.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are typical for this position. These are not exhaustive and additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Conduct and interpret behavior assessments.
  • Develop data collection methods and adjust programming based on intervention data analysis.
  • Assist staff in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing effective interventions and behavior plans.
  • Model and provide feedback to staff on the implementation of interventions and behavior plans.
  • Provide coaching and support for school teams to assist students with persistent behavioral challenges.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of assessment, data sources, and data analysis.
  • Offer programmatic support to students with significant cognitive and/or behavioral needs.
  • Develop and deliver ongoing professional development on research-based practices for behavior change and crisis prevention.
  • Provide resources to educators to aid in classroom management and behavior modification.
  • Collaborate with district personnel and external agencies.
  • Communicate effectively with administrators, special education teachers, general education teachers, and families.
  • Engage in long-term planning for addressing student social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
  • Stay informed on current research and implement best practice strategies to support students' social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
  • Prepare and submit reports promptly.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of restraint and seclusion protocols as required by law and ensure compliance with documentation procedures.
  • Review and approve necessary documentation.
  • Document services provided to students, including observations and recommendations.
  • Participate in meetings as necessary and provide behavior-related insights and recommendations.
  • Train and supervise behavior technicians across the district.
