Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients during surgical procedures. This position requires a professional who can operate with minimal supervision while adhering to established protocols and nursing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the completeness of patient records, including medical history, diagnostic information, and consent documentation.
- Provide educational support to patients and their families prior to surgical interventions.
- Assist anesthesia providers in safely positioning patients for procedures.
- Maintain patient safety by implementing appropriate positioning techniques to prevent injuries.
- Prepare surgical sites according to established protocols.
- Conduct thorough counts of surgical instruments and materials to ensure accuracy.
- Facilitate the transition between surgical cases by assisting with clean-up and preparation.
- Monitor patient safety in the recovery area, ensuring all safety measures are in place.
- Initiate intravenous therapy and obtain necessary consents for surgical procedures.
- Adhere to chemotherapy administration protocols when applicable.
- Support surgeons during procedures by providing assistance with retracting and suturing.
The responsibilities outlined above are not exhaustive; additional tasks may be assigned to support the hospital's mission.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (associate, baccalaureate, or diploma).
- Current RN licensure in the state of Illinois.
- Certification in BLS and ACLS is required within the first six months of employment.
- PALS certification is preferred.
