Job Overview:

The Meyers Lab at The University of Texas at Austin is actively seeking exceptional candidates for the role of Lead Technical Researcher. This position will focus on modeling COVID-19 projects to clarify the transmission dynamics and severity of the virus, while providing analytical support for local and state public health agencies. The successful candidate will demonstrate a blend of technical expertise, effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Modeling:
    • Establish technical specifications and guidance for the development, validation, and application of disease dynamic models addressing critical public health challenges.
    • Create new reusable and reproducible software components for CFA models.
    • Analyze existing models to identify potential risks and redundancies.
    • Lead the design, implementation, and execution of unit, integration, and system tests for CFA models.
    • Formulate novel research questions pertinent to public health.
  • Technical Leadership and Coordination:
    • Provide specialized software, optimization, and statistical skills to team members.
    • Implement collaborative software infrastructure, oversee software quality and system modifications, and assist team members in enhancing workflow and code quality.
    • Create standards for software performance and internal documentation, ensuring adherence.
  • Communications:
    • Disseminate results to scientists, public health agencies, and the general public through software code, publications, reports, and presentations.
    • Collaborate with public health partners to validate models and conduct real-world tests.
    • Act as a liaison, professionally representing the Meyers Lab and UT Center for Pandemic Decision Science with various stakeholders.
  • Ad Hoc Duties:
    • Address other lab needs as they arise.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a PhD in a quantitative science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field. The role requires the ability to work efficiently on time-sensitive analyses and collaborate within an interdisciplinary team. Proficiency in Python and experience in software design are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Several years of experience in designing, validating, and applying mathematical models of outbreak dynamics and control, along with experience collaborating with public health professionals, are preferred.

Salary Range:

$120,000+ based on qualifications.

Working Conditions:

  • Flexible work arrangements may be possible.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Standard office conditions may apply.
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
