Job Overview:
The Meyers Lab at The University of Texas at Austin is actively seeking exceptional candidates for the role of Lead Technical Researcher. This position will focus on modeling COVID-19 projects to clarify the transmission dynamics and severity of the virus, while providing analytical support for local and state public health agencies. The successful candidate will demonstrate a blend of technical expertise, effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills.Key Responsibilities:
- Modeling:
- Establish technical specifications and guidance for the development, validation, and application of disease dynamic models addressing critical public health challenges.
- Create new reusable and reproducible software components for CFA models.
- Analyze existing models to identify potential risks and redundancies.
- Lead the design, implementation, and execution of unit, integration, and system tests for CFA models.
- Formulate novel research questions pertinent to public health.
- Technical Leadership and Coordination:
- Provide specialized software, optimization, and statistical skills to team members.
- Implement collaborative software infrastructure, oversee software quality and system modifications, and assist team members in enhancing workflow and code quality.
- Create standards for software performance and internal documentation, ensuring adherence.
- Communications:
- Disseminate results to scientists, public health agencies, and the general public through software code, publications, reports, and presentations.
- Collaborate with public health partners to validate models and conduct real-world tests.
- Act as a liaison, professionally representing the Meyers Lab and UT Center for Pandemic Decision Science with various stakeholders.
- Ad Hoc Duties:
- Address other lab needs as they arise.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a PhD in a quantitative science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field. The role requires the ability to work efficiently on time-sensitive analyses and collaborate within an interdisciplinary team. Proficiency in Python and experience in software design are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Several years of experience in designing, validating, and applying mathematical models of outbreak dynamics and control, along with experience collaborating with public health professionals, are preferred.
Salary Range:
$120,000+ based on qualifications.
Working Conditions:
- Flexible work arrangements may be possible.
- Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
- Standard office conditions may apply.
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
