The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for delivering pharmaceutical care to outpatient populations, adhering to professional standards and legal requirements. This role involves overseeing the operations of the outpatient pharmacy, including the supervision of pharmacy technicians and interns. The pharmacist ensures precise medication preparation and distribution, developing effective medication management plans aimed at enhancing patient outcomes. Collaboration with patient assistance programs is essential to provide medications to economically disadvantaged patients. Additionally, the pharmacist plays a key role in educating both patients and healthcare providers, contributing to public health initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluates and interprets medication orders from prescribers to guarantee suitable drug therapy for each patient, in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Assesses medication orders for appropriateness, considering factors such as dosage, administration route, and duration of therapy.
- Monitors patient medication regimens for potential allergies, drug interactions, and adverse reactions.
- Conducts patient medication histories and provides counseling, along with educational materials as necessary.
- Consults with healthcare professionals to formulate safe and effective medication care plans.
- Adheres to all pharmacy practice regulations as established by governing bodies.
- Supervises pharmacy technicians and interns in the preparation and distribution of medications.
- Compounds and dispenses medications, recognizing the critical nature of accuracy in this process.
- Generates dispensing reports and maintains accurate accounting records.
- Initiates and leads departmental projects as required.
- Ensures compliance with the Formulary Medication System and departmental protocols.
- Maintains positive relationships and effectively resolves conflicts within the team.
- Safeguards patient confidentiality and discusses sensitive information only with authorized personnel.
- Embodies the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organization in all professional interactions.
- Commits to performing job duties safely and reporting any hazards to management.
- Generates quality and financial reports from the pharmacy management system.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy is required; a Pharm.D. or related advanced degree is preferred.
Experience:
Prior experience in community or retail pharmacy is advantageous.
Licensure:
A valid Pharmacist license in the State of Michigan or eligibility for licensure is required.

- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients and healthcare providers.
