Role Summary

The Restorative Counselor plays a pivotal role in guiding and enhancing the school community alongside campus leadership. This position adheres to all safety measures, ensuring a secure environment for all. The Restorative Counselor aids students in adhering to positive behavioral standards while promoting the social and emotional health of both students and their families. Collaborating with the Dean of Students, this role orchestrates a thorough response to the Student Code of Conduct and implements proactive support and interventions for students in various settings.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Duties:

  • Support the Dean of Students in the daily operations of the Student Support Team.
  • Act as a mentor for students requiring check-in/check-out support.
  • Provide behavioral assistance within classrooms.
  • Supervise hallways to ensure student safety.
  • Issue behavior referrals and maintain communication with families.
  • Document all incidents accurately.
  • Participate in MTSS/RTI meetings.
  • Engage with parents regarding weekly behavioral updates.
  • Regularly monitor and manage data in DeansList.
  • Generate reports as necessary.
  • Conduct Restorative Justice training sessions for staff.
  • Perform comprehensive follow-ups on Code of Conduct violations utilizing restorative practices.
  • Support the school community in the absence of the Dean of Students.

Counseling Duties:

  • Oversee and track tier 2 and 3 data in collaboration with MTSS and SST.
  • Assist staff with the implementation and data collection of BRTI.
  • Facilitate problem-solving sessions for Tier 2 and 3 groups.
  • Provide counseling support to students.
  • Assist staff with MTW & SELweb as needed.
  • Address SELweb and MTSS needs through class-wide, small group, or individual interventions.

Family Engagement:

  • Offer counseling and resources for parents.
  • Collaborate with family group leaders to identify resources for parents.

Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in Social Work or a related Human Services field.

Experience:

  • Experience in K-8 education.
  • Minimum of one year in an urban educational setting.
  • Three to five years of expertise in Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices.
  • Proficiency with cloud-based software solutions (e.g., Google Suite).
  • Familiarity with DeansList.
  • Willingness to travel to various campuses and conduct home visits as required.

Physical Requirements: The role may involve occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The position generally requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing.
