Job Description

Overview:

As a Tooling Engineer at Sterling Engineering, you will oversee the tooling activities within our cutting-edge manufacturing facility. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure adherence to procedures, compliance with environmental requirements, and efficient tool design, minimizing production downtime.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper maintenance and continuous improvement of dies and fixtures through preventative maintenance.
  • Guarantee the delivery of quality products to internal customers, meeting their volume and quantity needs.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive tool room budget for supplies, die repairs, and fixtures.
  • Oversee cost-effective daily operations within the department.
  • Manage and develop the tool room team, conducting orientations, performance evaluations, and corrective action plans.
  • Support the Environmental Management System (EMS) through communication, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Develop a work order system to document tool history and maintain mold/die/tooling standards.
  • Collaborate with design teams to integrate manufacturing best practices and safety into new production tools.
  • Obtain mold/die build cost quotes and award business based on cost, timing, and tool type.
  • Approve preliminary and final steel layouts, water diagrams, and part layouts for tooling.
  • Validate recommended repairs and facilitate problem-solving for ongoing machinery and tooling issues.
  • Specify new equipment requirements, provide training, and ensure equipment meets standards.
  • Participate in APQP meetings, new tooling reviews, and Hoshin project setup change over time reduction.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, business, or a related field preferred, or 10-15 years of relevant tooling/tool room management experience.
  • Knowledge of pressroom equipment, general fabrication, and machine rebuilding.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional/technical journals, financial reports, and production reports.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management and employees.
  • Maintains compliance with company policies, work rules, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.

Salary: $110,000-125,000
