Refinery Economics Analyst II

This role is pivotal in enhancing the commercial efficiency of CVR Energy's operations. The primary focus includes assessing and selecting raw materials, orchestrating refinery schedules, establishing operational benchmarks to maximize value-added outputs, and identifying the most beneficial product mix. Key responsibilities encompass the formulation of refinery production budgets, evaluating capital projects, fostering commercial business growth, and generating backcast reports. This position directly influences the profitability of refinery operations.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

• A minimum of an undergraduate degree in engineering or a related discipline is essential, with a preference for an engineering degree.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

• At least 3 years of experience in refinery or renewable resource optimization, planning, or scheduling is required.
• A solid understanding of refinery operations fundamentals is necessary.
• Familiarity with refinery LP modeling software, scheduling tools, and crude assay management software is advantageous.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential.
• Flexibility to adjust work schedules to meet business needs is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Tasks will be allocated based on the candidate's expertise and abilities, potentially covering all aspects crucial to the commercial optimization of production facilities.
• Identify the optimal mix of raw materials, process unit usage, operational conditions, and product slate to enhance profitability at the refinery and renewable diesel facility.
• Develop both short-term and long-term operational strategies aimed at maximizing profitability.
• Collaborate with the commercial team and operations to devise logistics strategies for refinery and renewable fuel products.
• Provide operational feedback to facilitate timely corrective measures, ensuring continuous improvement towards profit maximization.
• Utilize crude assay management software and refinery LP models to assess crude oils and feedstocks for acquisition or sale, ensuring models are calibrated for optimal refinery yields.
• Maintain up-to-date planning models, software, and spreadsheet tools.
• Regularly update supervisors on work progress, challenges, or opportunities for process enhancements.
• Work in proximity to potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.
