Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Military Embedded Adult Counselor to join our team at Magellan Health. As an embedded counselor, you will provide critical support to military service members and their families, addressing their behavioral health needs and promoting overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide non-medical, short-term counseling services to eligible service members and their families at assigned military units, including assessment, brief counseling, and consultation.
  • Deliver training and health and wellness presentations to military personnel and their families, promoting healthy behaviors and coping strategies.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily through a smartphone or web application, ensuring accurate reporting and maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Cultivate and maintain direct relationships with commanders and personnel within assigned military units, utilizing relationship management skills and recognizing the unique structure and mission of each unit.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources and military populations, partnering with Points of Contact to provide MFLC services that address the needs of each brigade or regiment.
  • Respond to critical incidents, surge, and special requests as directed by the Point of Contact and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense program manager.
  • Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense protocol and staff cases with the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
  • Communicate with Regional Supervisors and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on installations.
  • Participate in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned or appropriate.
Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health-related field.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a state, district, or territory that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner.
  • Minimum two years of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Intermediate-level competencies in technology and software, including Microsoft Suite, internet navigation, smartphone/tablet application navigation, and video-conferencing platform navigation.
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children as assigned, responding quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation or within a school setting.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, responding to critical incidents and providing support to military service members and their families. The counselor must be able to work effectively in a variety of physical environments, including indoor and outdoor locations, and must be able to traverse short and/or long distances within a military installation or school setting.

The counselor may be required to travel to locations outside of a military installation in a variety of physical environments. Due to the nature of working on military installations or related worksites, counselors may need to comply with various site-specific requirements to work at designated locations.
