Job Overview

Saint Paul Public Schools is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Discovery Club before and after school program. This program provides a safe, fun, and caring environment that supports children's learning and development.

As a Child Care Assistant, you will be responsible for building relationships with, actively engaging with, and the general supervision and management of groups of up to 15 students. We provide ample opportunities for leadership and the ability to cater our programs based on the needs and interests of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement educational and recreational activities planned by Site Supervisors and Group Leaders.
  • Provide appropriate behavior guidance and disciplinary action as needed.
  • Develop supportive relationships with Discovery Club students and families.
  • Build community and establish a welcoming, engaging, respectful, cooperative environment.
  • Teach and model social skills, personal responsibility, problem solving, respect, and related skills.
  • Carry out appropriate health and safety procedures and all district policies.
  • Provide accommodations for children with special needs and modify activities as needed to ensure respectful inclusion.

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly pay starting at $18/hour.
  • Eligibility for a stipend through the Great Start Compensation Grant offered by the Department of Human Services.
  • Part-time shifts available with hours between 1:30 - 5:30 pm. Hours vary by location.
  • Monday - Friday, No weekends.
  • Options to increase hours in the summer and Non-School days.

Requirements:

  • 12 college credits in Psychology, Child Development, Education or 120 hours of training in child care or a related field (or a combination of the two) OR: 2080 hours of experience in a childcare setting (1 year+ full time).
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work effectively with children and their parents/guardians and work cooperatively with school staff.
