Job Summary

At Swedish Medical Center, we are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team on a per diem basis, working 2nd or 3rd shift. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to our patients, including conducting assessments, creating plans of action, and implementing respiratory care programs.

Responsibilities

Conduct respiratory care assessments of patients and create plans of action based on approved guidelines and protocols.
Communicate with nurses and physicians to implement respiratory care programs.
Document all respiratory care-related procedures in a concise and complete manner.
Assemble, install, maintain, and adjust ventilator equipment based on patient status.
Participate in invasive and non-invasive cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures.
Participate as a member of the Code Blue Team.
Complete other related assignments as directed by department management.

Patient Care/Age-Specific Responsibilities and Qualifications

This position requires recognition of the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups treated, including understanding child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior, and signs of normal aging.

Qualification/Basic Job Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent plus successful completion of an AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program.
Minimum of six months previous experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
Ability to function effectively in the patient care environment, demonstrate sound communication style in both speaking and writing, and make independent judgments based on established priorities and guidelines.
Computer literacy is necessary.

License/Certification

CRT/RRT and licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in the state of IL.

Management Responsibility

Supervises other RTs (up to five) when acting as Charge Tech.

Internal and External Contacts

Internal: Patients, patients' families, physicians, and hospital staff.
External: Visitors, salespersons, and manufacturers' representatives.

Environment

Standing and walking - 75% of the time.
Occasional rolling equipment (up to 10 lbs. of force) and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) patients and respiratory equipment - 5% of the time.
Activities include medication administration, ABGs, and treatment documentation.
Blood/body fluids and airborne disease hazards are commonly encountered on a daily basis in the process of treating patients and drawing blood.
Good eyesight.
Good eye and hand coordination - 95%.
Steady hand for procedures.
Exposure to airborne diseases - 80%.
Exposure to blood-borne diseases - 80%.
