Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented CNC Trainee to join our team at Smith & Wesson. As a CNC Trainee, you will participate in our comprehensive training program to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to operate computer numerical controlled machines and fabricate parts for our production of components for pistols, revolvers, and rifles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the CNC Training Program to learn machinist duties and operate computer numerical controlled machines
  • Load parts into machines, cycle machines, and detect malfunctions in machine operations
  • Run production lots, communicate with co-workers, and maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment
  • Set up CNC equipment, install and adjust tools, attachments, and fixtures
  • Verify settings, measure positions, and take measurements to ensure quality and accuracy
  • Maintain specifications, observe drilling, grooving, and cutting operations, and detect malfunctions
  • Maintain safe operations, adhere to safety procedures and regulations, and complete preventive maintenance requirements
Requirements
  • Completion of vocational academic program or machining skills certification program preferred
  • Previous experience in machine shop or CNC environment preferred
  • Math skills equal to that used in a machining environment preferred
  • Must take and pass a math and mechanical aptitude test
  • Excellent conceptual skills, process improvement, verbal communication, functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation skills, supply management, tooling, coordination, inventory control, attention to detail, and judgment preferred
Working Conditions

Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting.

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, push, pull, carry, reach, and twist. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Mandatory wearing of certified safety glasses and hearing protection. The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department.
