Position Overview

Compensation Range:
The estimated salary for this role is between $1470 and $3360, contingent upon the number of courses assigned and student enrollment figures.

Position Description

The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) operates as a self-sustaining entity within the University of California. Revenue is generated through fees from a diverse and dynamic student body. Part-time instructor roles are contracted on a course-by-course basis and do not equate to faculty positions.

The online teaching opportunity is currently available within the Business Administration Certificate Program. We are looking for qualified candidates with up-to-date knowledge and/or teaching experience in the area of Modern Business Writing.

Instructor Responsibilities:

* Develop and/or revise course syllabi in collaboration with the UCI DCE Business Programs Manager, utilizing the approved syllabus template.

* Prepare and deliver online course materials and assessments in the designated format.

* Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as the primary course support platform.

* Clearly communicate teaching objectives and expected learning outcomes to students, including grading policies.

* Assess student performance based on defined learning outcomes and assign grades accordingly.

* Submit final grades to the transcript system by established deadlines.

* Address student inquiries and learning needs promptly.

* Manage student questions regarding final grades and consult with the Manager as necessary.

* Stay informed about current developments in the field of expertise.

* Participate in required orientations and complete mandatory training programs by specified deadlines.

* Complete necessary administrative tasks in a timely manner, including hiring paperwork, updating syllabi, posting professional bio and photo on the UCI DCE website, signing contracts, and communicating any audio-visual and classroom requirements.

* Employ culturally responsive teaching methods to engage both domestic and international students.

* Allow students to review their final assessments for up to 13 months following the last class session.

* Leverage subject-matter expertise and additional resources to enhance the curriculum (e.g., arranging guest speakers).

* Design interactive and engaging classroom activities to reinforce student learning.

* Regularly update course materials and monitor evaluations to improve the curriculum.

Our curriculum is continuously refined to equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and business practices to thrive and advance in their careers. Taught by experienced professionals, our courses emphasize practical applications, underlying principles, and contemporary issues that can be immediately applied in the workplace.

Part-time, temporary assignments are based on need. This is an ongoing recruitment process, and applications for part-time instructor positions are accepted year-round. When a need arises, we refer to the pool of applications on file. We are specifically seeking instructors qualified to teach the following course as early as the upcoming quarter:

Modern Business Writing - Course Overview:

Effective writing is a crucial skill in the business realm. This course teaches how to express thoughts clearly and concisely, ensuring that ideas are understood by the audience. Participants will enhance their business writing abilities by learning to select appropriate formats, use the correct medium, and adjust writing styles to suit different objectives. Additionally, students will learn to identify, correct, and avoid common writing errors while gaining hands-on experience in drafting and revising various business documents, from simple memos to comprehensive proposals.

Individuals selected for these teaching roles must recognize that all agreements with the University are made on a course-by-course basis, with no guarantee of ongoing engagement in any capacity.
