We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team at the Utah Department of Transportation. As a Journey Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for ensuring the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, including snow plows and heavy duty trucks.
Key Responsibilities- Perform journey level mechanic duties, including inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing vehicular equipment and heavy equipment.
- Inspect parts for wear, breaks, and defects.
- Use diagnostic testing and calibrating equipment for repairs.
- Operate tools necessary to perform duties, including pneumatic tools, power tools, hand tools, and test equipment.
- Perform cutting, brazing, and welding as needed.
- Complete necessary paperwork to account for parts and labor.
- Road test all equipment before and after repair.
- Clean up after repairs are completed.
- Maintain equipment records and read and interpret parts and repair manuals.
- A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 60 days after hire.
- A State Inspection certificate or the ability to obtain one within 90 days after hire.
- At least 4 years of directly related professional experience or substitution of directly related education for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
- 24-hour availability and be available for overtime and varied work schedules.
- Your own full set of mechanics tools.
