The Geriatric Care Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the well-being of elderly residents, facilitating their daily living needs and personal care. Key duties include assisting with mobility, nutrition, hygiene, and dressing, along with the operation and management of medical devices such as wheelchairs and oxygen systems. The Assistant is responsible for monitoring the physical and emotional health of residents, recording vital signs, and handling specimens as necessary. They also ensure the comfort of residents, address their requests, and assist healthcare professionals in various medical tasks and emergency situations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Aid residents in daily activities such as mobility, eating, bathing, and dressing.
- Manage and operate medical equipment, including wheelchairs and oxygen delivery systems.
- Observe and report on residents' physical and mental health, taking vital signs and managing samples.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff, documenting interactions and addressing concerns.
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in resident areas, including changing linens and managing medical supplies.
- Assist nursing staff with medical procedures and post-operative care while adhering to safety protocols.
- Engage in training and interdisciplinary meetings focused on patient care planning and skill enhancement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Valid CNA certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- New graduates are encouraged to apply
- Preferred experience in geriatric or long-term care environments.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and clinical practices
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
