Rutgers University is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse for the Acute Psych Services Department. The primary purpose of this role is to provide nursing services and participate in the delivery of individualized, goal-directed nursing care through the use of the nursing process in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures, as well as all regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and diagnose patient, family, and significant other needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
- Document initial nursing assessment and individualized, goal-directed plan of care considering the psychological, social, physical health, and safety needs of the patient, in accordance with unit standards.
- Develop, discuss, and communicate a realistic, individualized plan of care for each patient, in collaboration with the patient, family, and significant other to promote wellness and recovery.
- Evaluate identified problems and care provided, and reassess the patient's responses to meet the patient and family/significant other needs to ensure overall quality of care delivered.
- Maintain concurrent and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the multidisciplinary team to ensure quality care.
- Discharge plan of care accurately reflects the patient's ability to manage care after discharge.
- Current status as a Registered Nurse in the state of New Jersey.
- Certifications/Licenses: Registered Nurse.
- Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to provide psychiatric nursing, relate to patients, use the nursing process, communicate effectively, problem-solve, direct non-professional staff, request help as needed, and demonstrate strong clinical nursing specialty.
The position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, sitting 1/3 of the time, using hands to finger, handle, or feel 2/3 of the time, reaching with hands and arms 1/3 of the time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling 1/3 of the time, talking or hearing over 2/3 of the time. Manual dexterity and intermittent physical exertion are required when performing job activities.
The work environment is moderate noise, with exposure to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric. Occasional exposure to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors and bloodborne pathogens that require the use of personal protective equipment may occur.
