About the Role
As a Medical Support Professional at UNC Health Care, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting our team of healthcare professionals. With over 40,000 teammates, we are committed to improving the health and well-being of our unique communities.
Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies.
- Critically review patient care documentation, noting any significant changes in the patient's condition and report to a registered nurse or physician immediately.
- Provide a variety of clerical tasks, including organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, researching information requested by nurses and physicians, reviewing orders for logic and clarity, revising orders as requested by the nurse, answering telephone calls and patient requests, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records.
- Perform routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies. Provide administrative and clerical support, including PI audits and data entry.
- Offer clinical support assistance, such as cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment, troubleshooting common software and hardware problems, changing linens, checking supply inventory, re-stocking supplies, transporting patients/ supplies/ specimens, and assisting in the orientation of new employees and students.
- Provide direct personal care to patients, including bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting with ambulation, measuring and recording vital signs, patient height and weight, specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, and/or postural drainage.
- Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions. Distribute patient education materials at the request of patients and/or healthcare providers.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
- Listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Service
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
