POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of supervisory personnel, the Breast Imaging Specialist conducts mammography examinations, encompassing both screening and diagnostic procedures, as well as needle localization tasks. This role ensures the technical excellence of all procedures while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of quality control measures and safety regulations. Operates within established protocols and guidelines to fulfill responsibilities effectively. Upholds the standards of the US Oncology Compliance Program, including adherence to the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Executes routine digital mammography procedures as prescribed. Determines and selects appropriate technical parameters based on patient characteristics and clinical indications. Prepares patients for examinations by verifying medical history and elucidating the examination process. Communicates pertinent patient information and concerns to physicians and relevant staff as necessary. Inputs examination details and billing information into the system. Maintains inventory for diagnostic supplies. Ensures that films and documentation are accurately completed with necessary patient identification and labeling. Prepares, calibrates, and sanitizes equipment, examination areas, and darkroom facilities. Inspects equipment to confirm operational readiness and alerts maintenance personnel when repairs are required. Adheres to all safety protocols and ensures patient comfort and safety throughout procedures. Provides necessary protective equipment, such as radiation monitoring badges, to individuals in the examination vicinity. Performs additional tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Graduate of an accredited Radiology or Mammography program (MQSA). + Preferred experience of 3-5 years in mammography.

  • Current:
CPR certification or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists credential required. + Experience with ultrasound is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work setting may involve exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, ionizing radiation, medical substances, and other conditions typical of an oncology/hematology clinic. The role necessitates in-person collaboration with colleagues and management. Minimal travel by vehicle to various office locations may be required.

SCHEDULE:

Currently, a preference for a 5-day work week is indicated. Should the position transition to a long-term role, it may shift to a 4-day, 10-hour schedule. (The office operates from 7 AM to 5 PM, and a 5-day schedule would entail 8.5-hour days, with flexibility in discussing specific hours such as 7 AM to 3:30 PM, 8:30 AM to 5 PM, or variations thereof.)
