HBM Memory Architecture Engineer

Dallas, Texas, United States Micron Technology Full time
Our Mission:

At Micron Technology, we aim to revolutionize the way information is utilized to enhance life globally.

As a leading innovator in memory and storage solutions, we are dedicated to transforming information into intelligence, empowering individuals to learn, communicate, and progress at unprecedented speeds.

Position Overview:

For over four decades, Micron Technology, Inc. has been at the forefront of innovation with the most sophisticated memory and semiconductor technologies. Our diverse team of visionaries and engineers is committed to developing cutting-edge technologies that redefine how information enriches lives.

In the role of HBM Memory Design Engineer within our Heterogeneous Integration Group (HIG), you will engage in the design and analysis of both digital and analog circuits essential for memory product development. This encompasses the simulation, optimization, and layout planning of DRAM circuits. You will collaborate with various design and verification teams globally, supporting Product Engineering, Testing, Probe, Process Integration, Assembly, and Marketing teams to proactively develop HBM products that enhance manufacturing efficiency and ensure optimal performance, power consumption, cost-effectiveness, quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

Our HBM initiatives focus on integrating advanced front-end and back-end processes, employing innovative design, debugging methodologies, and qualification techniques to create the most efficient solutions for Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The complexity of HBM products necessitates seamless collaboration among various engineering disciplines. Specifically, our HBM technology involves stacking multiple DRAM chips alongside a logic chip within a single package using Through Silicon Via (TSV) technology, significantly boosting memory density while facilitating high-speed signal transmission.

In the realm of high bandwidth memory design, we uniquely blend custom gate-level design with RTL style logic design, setting us apart from traditional DDR or LPDDR designs that primarily rely on gate-level design. Additionally, the verification and validation of HBM products present unique challenges due to their extensive design size and functional complexity, requiring innovative approaches to ensure product integrity.

Team Vision:

We are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment where multicultural teams collaborate across global locations, enabling you to develop your skills in a creative and supportive atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the creation of new HBM product opportunities through the design, layout, and optimization of Memory, Logic, and Analog circuits.
  • Assist in parasitic modeling and design validation, including reticle experiments and necessary tape-out modifications.
  • Oversee the layout process, encompassing floor-planning, placement, and routing.
  • Conduct verification processes utilizing industry-standard modeling and simulation tools.
  • Maintain technical expertise and provide mentorship.
  • Facilitate cross-group communication to promote standardization and collective success.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Probe, Assembly, Testing, Process Integration, and Product Engineering teams to ensure manufacturability.
  • Seek guidance from Standards, CAD, modeling, and verification teams to uphold design quality.
  • Drive innovation for future Memory generations within a dynamic work environment.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE, MSEE).
  • Extensive knowledge of CMOS Circuit Design and Device Physics.
  • Familiarity with schematic entry and simulation tools such as Finesim and/or Hspice.
  • Experience in power network analysis.
  • Proficient in Verilog modeling and simulation tools.
  • In-depth understanding of state machine logic/design verification techniques.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Tcl, Perl, etc.).
What Distinguishes You:
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic team player who enjoys collaboration.
  • Effective communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Familiarity with memory design principles.
  • 5+ years of relevant Engineering or Design Engineering experience.
