As a leading innovator in electric vehicles and clean energy solutions, Tesla faces unprecedented data challenges in its mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. The Distributed Database team plays a vital role in pushing the boundaries of networking and compute hardware to support this effort across all areas within the company.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing and developing the next generation of distributed database service platforms that underpin mission-critical services for Tesla's customers, employees, and manufacturing processes. Your work will capitalize on the largest edge footprint possible in a globally distributed manufacturing setting, while defining the state-of-the-art in distributed database design.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design optimal systems architectures and software designs that meet the performance demands of Tesla's mission-critical applications.
  • Push the performance limits of hardware with a nuanced understanding of CPU architecture and networking principles.
  • Implement low-level, cache-friendly, ultra-high performance code that optimizes system efficiency.
  • Rigorously benchmark and analyze distributed systems for performance and correctness.
  • Collaborate with global teams to develop a world-class, secure, and fault-resilient storage layer for workloads.
  • Contribute to state-of-the-art test automation, continuous deployment, and configuration management.
Requirements:
  • Proficiency in at least 2 low-level programming languages such as C, C++, or Rust.
  • Expert knowledge of distributed database engine development, query engine design, and low-level performance optimization.
  • Experience with applied mathematics, distributed algorithms, and Internet-scale data platform software engineering is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DPDK & SPDK is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or proof of exceptional skills in a related field.

Compensation and Benefits:

At Tesla, we offer a competitive compensation package that includes a salary range of $140,000 - $300,000 per annum, plus cash and stock awards, and benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
