Job Summary

The MDS Nurse utilizes independent judgment in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the activities of both professional and supportive nursing staff involved in resident care plans. This role includes assessing care provided to residents and ensuring care plans are up-to-date. The MDS Nurse leads the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process and assists in evaluating potential admissions. Upon admission, and during quarterly and annual assessments, the MDS Nurse conducts thorough evaluations of residents. Collaboration with residents, families, advocates, and interdisciplinary colleagues is essential to ensure ongoing care and the highest quality of life for each resident.

When functioning on the floor, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for employing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation, and evaluation) to deliver personalized nursing care. The RN demonstrates proficiency and operates within the full scope of nursing expertise, adhering to age and population-specific standards relevant to their clinical setting. Responsibilities include caring for residents across all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment.

The RN may serve as the charge nurse, delegating appropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel based on job descriptions, skills, resident care needs, and the competence level of the delegate. As charge nurse, the RN provides necessary support to ensure safe and reliable administration of resident care and addresses any care and service concerns.

The RN functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in their state of practice and licensure. Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation for nursing care delivery and professional conduct.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have graduated from a National League of Nursing (NLN) or American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) accredited nursing program. A Bachelor’s Degree in nursing is preferred.

A minimum of one year of experience as a licensed nurse working with the senior population is preferred. Specific services or positions may have additional education, training, or experience requirements. Certification as a Resident Assessment Coordinator (RAC-CT) and management or supervisory experience are preferred.

Candidates must hold an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing in their practice area and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. They should obtain and maintain required certifications and complete necessary continuing education units (CEU) and competency training. Affiliation with an external professional nursing organization is preferred.

Benefits

The Good Samaritan Society offers a competitive benefits package for qualifying full-time and part-time employees. Depending on eligibility, benefits may include health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, work/life balance benefits, and a generous time-off package to support a healthy work-life balance.

The Good Samaritan Society is an EEO/AA Employer M/F/Disability/Vet. A drug-free workplace policy is in effect, and an accepted offer will require a drug screen and pre-employment background screening as a condition of employment.
