POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Maintenance/Driver Worker

LOCATION/DEPT: Shield of Hope

REPORTS TO: Program Director

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

STATUS TYPE: RPT/FPT

DEPARTMENT MISSION

The mission of The Salvation Army is to provide comprehensive support through maintenance services for the Emergency Homeless Assessment and Referral Center programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The individual in this role will be accountable for the operational needs of the Emergency Homeless Assessment and Referral Center. Responsibilities include:

  1. Facilitating transportation for families to designated locations and shelters.
  2. Conducting daily mail collection and delivery.
  3. Coordinating food and donation pickups, including regular visits to local donation centers.
  4. Ensuring cleanliness of vehicles through regular washing and vacuuming.
  5. Being available for guest transportation as directed by the Program Director or Program Coordinator.
  6. Performing scheduled vehicle maintenance as assigned.
  7. Completing all maintenance tasks as directed.
  8. Undertaking additional duties as required.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

This position reports directly to the Program Director and represents The Salvation Army in all related duties.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Performance will be assessed based on the effectiveness in achieving the outlined responsibilities, along with the timeliness and accuracy of task completion.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Experience in building maintenance is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 2 years of driving experience is required (CDL license preferred).
  • Valid Driver's license and a clean driving record are necessary.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to operate a vehicle safely and in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Willingness to learn and apply building maintenance concepts.
  • Capability to maintain documentation as needed.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Attention to detail and a positive attitude.
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing needs.
  • Commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

  • Resources committed must be pre-approved.
  • Maintain communication with the Program Director and Facilities Manager regarding critical issues.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This role requires light to moderate physical activity.
  • Ability to navigate stairs and lift items up to 70 pounds is essential.
  • Regularly involved in moving and transporting donations, operating vehicles, and using maintenance tools.
  • The work environment includes both residential and outdoor settings, with varying noise levels and potential exposure to inclement weather.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere through respectful communication and conflict resolution.
