Job Title: Chaplain

Reports to the Deputy Warden of Programs, responsible for designing and implementing religious programs, conducting regular and special religious services, providing pastoral care and counseling to offenders, and supervising religious educational classes in compliance with ACA standards, MTC directives, and MDOC regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create, manage, and implement all religious programs of the facility.
  • Conduct religious services and religious education programs, and schedule periodic special programs.
  • Serve as the point of contact for outside faith-based activities, persons, or groups requesting admittance to the facility.
  • Develop, maintain, and screen an ongoing list of local community volunteers interested in providing services to the facility.
  • Train and supervise volunteers working in chaplaincy programs.
  • Provide regular chaplaincy visitation rounds to new and existing offenders and offenders who are critically ill.
  • Counsel offenders on religious problems, personal issues, crisis intervention, grief, and institutional adjustment.
  • Interact with offenders during their daily activities and provide appropriate moral and religious instruction.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
  • Maintain accountability of offenders and property; adhere to safety practices.
Requirements:
  • Current ecclesiastical endorsement by denomination or ordination.
  • Completion of clinical pastoral education provided by denominational or interdenominational training organizations.
  • Two years of religious or related experience.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
