Position Overview

Under moderate supervision, the Clinical Nurse II operates as a proficient practitioner. This level of clinician employs the nursing process to deliver patient care and education to families. The practitioner is responsible for organizing and executing safe, therapeutic, and effective patient care in structured environments with predictable outcomes. The patient demographic may range from neonates to adults and geriatrics.

Qualifications

  • The following points outline the general duties, responsibilities, and competencies deemed essential for fulfilling the core functions of the role. Specific job responsibilities may be adjusted by the department manager based on organizational needs.
  • To be eligible for this position, candidates must be graduates of an accredited nursing program; possess a current RN license in the relevant state; and have successfully completed all required hospital, nursing, and unit orientation, including BLS certification and medication certification. Candidates should maintain the criteria for and demonstrate proficiency at the Clinical Nurse I level while meeting the eligibility requirements for Clinical Nurse II. ACLS certification is required for specific units, and NALS certification is necessary for obstetrical-nursery roles or must be completed within six months of employment. Certification in a specialty area is preferred. Telemetry Nurses must pass a basic arrhythmia exam and demonstrate the ability to identify critical rhythms and seek appropriate intervention.
