About the Role

The Construction Laborer is a key member of our team at Mainstream Fiber Networks, responsible for ensuring the successful completion of construction projects. This role involves preparing sites by cleaning, loading or unloading materials, and removing hazards as needed.

As an OSP Laborer, you will also be responsible for operating equipment and assisting in traffic control while crew members are working. Your attention to detail and ability to follow instructions will be essential in maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist construction crew members with the successful completion of assigned projects
  • Maintain proper inventory on vehicle based on work assignment
  • Assist in pulling out cable lines and other equipment used in installing cable wires
  • Install equipment and use assorted small hand and power tools
  • Operate vehicle and bucket lift safely, following all safety and traffic regulations
  • Perform basic daily maintenance of Company vehicle, including fluids check, cleanliness, and organization
  • Assist in directing traffic flow in accordance with local and state DOT guidelines
  • Operate and care for construction equipment and machines
  • Help equipment operators, carpenters, and other skilled labor when necessary
  • Prep construction sites by cleaning obstacles and hazards
  • Load or unload construction materials
  • Put together and take apart temporary structures, such as scaffolding
  • Remove, fill, or compact earth
  • Follow instructions from supervisors
  • Assist craft workers
  • Ready to learn from on-the-job training when necessary
  • Perform site clean-up
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned
Key Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent education, required
  • 1-2 years of experience in construction or a similar role
  • Valid Driver's License, required
  • Understanding of basic construction principles
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Ability to operate manual and mechanical equipment necessary to complete jobs
  • Knowledge of 'safety systems' associated with aerial cable, including set-up and emergency procedures
  • Ability to drive an automatic transmission up to 21,000 pounds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Additional Notes
  • This position may require being on call, with employees responding to emergency calls between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
  • Work is primarily performed outdoors/field work
  • This position does require travel, with per diem paid out based on travel
